Be careful if you are using a mac and asked to watch a video

Security researchers have found the first version of the Koobface malware targeting Mac OS X users on Facebook, MySpace and Twitter.

Irfanview no longer causes BSOD

Well I just happened to run Irfanview again for some reason on my Win7 x64 installs and they no longer bluescreen.
It seems Microsoft sent out a patch via Windows update to fix this a while back.
Microsoft Security Bulletin MS10-043 - Critical
Vulnerability in Canonical Display Driver Could Allow Remote Code Execution (2032276)

Oh well one good thing about this whole thing is that I found a good alternative program to Irfanview called FastPictureViewer.
It's way faster and makes use of your GPU if possible.
I like it and that's what I've been using and that's why I haven't noticed Microsoft fixed this bug until now!

You are unable to install 64-bit storage drivers during Windows setup

This is why it's important to get your drivers directly from your motherboard maker i.e. EVGA, Intel, Asus, etc.
You are unable to install 64-bit storage drivers during Windows setup

You cannot open a shared file that is hosted on a Windows Server 2008-based or Windows Vista-based computer

Hmm this one is interesting since you only see it under "heavy load" it seems:
The computer is under a heavy load situation.

Doesn't seem to include Windows 2008 R2 or Windows 7 though so I guess they fixed it for those OS.

Why Don't We Use Functional Programming Languages More?

I think this is the best explanation I've come across so far!

The Outsiders

A comment that Aldous Huxley once made about Sir Isaac Newton might equally have been said of Sidis.

For the price Newton had to pay for being a supreme intellect was that he was incapable of friendship, love, fatherhood, and many other desirable things. As a man he was a failure; as a monster he was superb [5, p. 2222].

History lesson of the day

Goring make a good point.

"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger."

-- Herman Göring at the Nuremberg trials

Göring: Oh, that is all well and good, but, voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country.

STOP 0x0000003D BSOD

Turned on my new Intel Core i7 rig today and was greeting by the following blue screen of death!

STOP 0x0000003D Error Messages

The STOP 0x0000003D error will always appear on a STOP message, more commonly called a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD). One of the errors below or a combination of both errors may display on the STOP message:

* "STOP: 0x0000003D"

* "INTERRUPT_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED"

Have no idea what caused it but had to go into Windows 7 recovery mode and do a system restore to fix it.
Also, ran memtest to see if it could be a memory problem but passed memtest just fine.
Hopefully, this was just Windows being flaky although my older quadcore9550 has been running Windows 7 without a bluescreen for over a year at least!
