Vista and Quicktime don't mix

I don't know if anyone else out there has run into this and I guess it's not totally unexpected since even Apple is still saying Itunes/QT is not supported on Vista yet but c'mon now how can playing a quicktime file bring down the whole OS?
Did MS build quicktime into the kernel or something?
Well if you want to know more about what I'm talking about check out more detailed info on quicktime causing BSOD on Vista here

Lack of Mac malware baffles experts-Exploit authors continue to ignore OS X

Apple's Mac OS X remains almost completely free of any sort of malware threat despite several years of availability, a significant market share, and even an entire month dedicated to pointing out its flaws. And security experts are not exactly sure whyThat's right in the 6+ years I've been using Macosx I've never once had to deal with a virus/spyware,etc!Read it and weep windows users!

Living on the cutting/bleeding edge

If you want to play with the latest tech I guess you have to be willing to put up with random and unexpected bugs like when I turned on my Vista PC today I was greeting with a BSOD, how nice!!!
Anyways it looks like it's not as bad as it would have been with XP since Vista's registry hasn't completely taken a dump to the point of having to do a reinstall.
The BSOD I got looks to be a known bug with Vista and Nvidia hardware that will hopefully be fixed soon:
"An update: this is bug in nvstor.sys. We are planning to release an updated
driver via Windows Update. I don't have an ETA though."

Save Internet Radio from the RIAA

Earlier today the new royalty rates for streaming radio stations were announced. A station with 1000 listeners will now have to pay $150,000 a year in royalties. This effectively forces independent webcasters off the air. The worst part: the rates are effective retroactively to the beginning of 2006! Help us get this senseless policy overturned!

Another Vista driver workaround

If you have a HP deskjet 995C and upgraded to Vista expecting it to work it doesn't.
HP's official reponse it to buy a new Vista compatible printer but if you are cheap and resourceful as I am you just workaround annoyances like this:
Find your printer in device manager and just manually install the drivers this time by selecting the builtin HP printer driver for the 990c printer and tada the printer you thought was rendered a paperweight by Vista and time is ready to print!

DVD burner problems

While burning some cd's in vista one of my 2 dvd burners disappeared while using on fly copy with latest version of nero 7. Don't know if it's a problem with Vista,Nero or starforce which some of my games use?
I just did a scan for new hardware in device manager and missing dvd drive reappeared so kind weird and scary since this happened all of the sudden and out of the blue.

Also my old mac powerbook keeps on ticking

I thought my 6 year old apple G4 titanium powerbook bit the dust about the same time I upgraded to Vista and was about to write it off as a lost cause but Vista isn't that good so I ended up buying a new laptop HDD and now it's faster and works as good as ever!
When it does eventually die hopefully I'll have enough money to upgrade to this

Running Vista on main computer now

I decided to take the Vista plunge and upgrade my main WinXP system to Vista Ultimate and it's not as bad as I though it would be so far!
Who'd of thought.
But I'm going to post all the snags I do/have hit along the way so I can save others endless fustration and time.
